No one has portrayed ballerinas like Edgar Degas. The greatness of his achievement in depicting the color and light in which they move, the grace and sweep of their motion...well, it's almost enough to make one consider avoiding the subject altogether. Still, once you get over the intimidation factor, what the hell, why not add one's own two cents? This study, based on a photograph taken by the master, is my minimalist attempt to depict the calm confidence of one his subjects preparing to perform.
